Świnoujście – attractions for children. What to see and where to go?

Świnoujście is a perfect city for a family trip. A wide, sandy beach, a 12-kilometer promenade, and plenty of space for leisurely exploration mean every day can be completely different. On the one hand, you can relax here, and on the other, you can easily plan an active day full of attractions. Where can you take your child in Świnoujście to make the most of your time by the sea? Check out our suggestions!

Świnoujście – attractions for children available all year round

Świnoujście is primarily associated with summer vacations, but many attractions for children are available year-round. This is good news for families who want to visit the city off-season or are looking for reliable destinations for all weather conditions. What tourist attractions does Świnoujście offer for children?

Promenade and playgrounds

The New Promenade is one of Świnoujście's most important family destinations. Approximately 12 kilometers long, it runs from the city center to the German border. It's an ideal space for family walks, cycling, or scooter rides. Along the way, you'll pass fountains, cafes, a bandstand, and playgrounds. Here, you'll find toddler areas as well as larger areas with sand, ziplines, and wooden ship-shaped structures. Some of these areas also have designated, shaded areas for younger children.

Ferry crossing

For locals, it's a daily way to get from one part of the city to another, but children see it completely differently. The ferry crossing across the Świna River often proves to be an attraction in itself. They can observe the ships up close, feel the pleasant breeze, and briefly experience the feeling of being on a real cruise. Importantly, the crossing is free, so it's easy to treat it not only as a means of transportation but also as a little adventure during the day.

Stawa Mills

The white windmill at the end of the breakwater is one of Świnoujście's most recognizable landmarks. Just walking towards it is a unique adventure for children. The route runs along the coast, and along the way, you can watch ships entering the port. It's worth remembering, however, that although the breakwater isn't long (about 250 meters), its surface can be uneven and slippery, so keep an eye on children. In calm weather, however, it's a very pleasant route, which even the youngest can easily navigate.

Observation tower

For slightly older children, a trip to the observation tower, housed in a former church tower, can be a great challenge. 222 steps lead to the top, which for many is an attraction in itself. At the top, a panoramic view of the city and surrounding area awaits, and the café located there is an added bonus.

Spa Park

Spa Park is considered one of the most beautiful spa parks in Europe. Abundant greenery, wide paths, and trees over 100 years old create a space of peace and relaxation. The park is well-maintained, with renovated paths and rest areas, allowing you to spend several hours here without rushing.

For children, it's primarily a space for free movement – running, scootering, or cycling. The northern part of the park also features playing fields and an outdoor gym, so older children and teenagers will also find something to enjoy. Younger children can enjoy the playground on Mieszka I Street, which features wooden structures and a safe surface.

Chopin Park

A peaceful place worth visiting with children. It features unique climbing structures and a space for creative play. An additional advantage is the ability to draw with chalk, which many children find a great way to spend their time.

Fort Gerhard

This is one of the most interesting attractions for older children, as the tour takes the form of an active adventure. The fort acts as a "living museum," where visitors take on roles and participate in a unique show. During the visit, you can learn about the site's history, undergo a short "training session," and see what life was like in the former military. The tour format is dynamic and engaging, keeping children engaged.

Upside Down House

This is another attraction that captures the attention of young children. The building is upside down, so it looks quite unusual from the outside. The interior is even more interesting, as everything has been reversed: the kitchen, living room, and bedroom – the furniture "hangs" overhead, and the floor gives the impression of a slight tilt. Walking around this interior allows for a game of balance – children have a lot of fun, as each step feels different than usual.

Oceanarium in Świnoujście

This small attraction is located in the Promenada Gallery on Żeromskiego Street. Inside, there are over a dozen aquariums with colorful fish and sea creatures that children can see up close. The Oceanarium is open daily (usually from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), so you can fit a visit into your city sightseeing schedule.

Tourist train

A train ride is a convenient way to explore the city, especially with younger children. The glass-walled carriages offer interesting facts about Świnoujście. The route covers the city's most important landmarks, and the journey itself takes about an hour, allowing you to see a lot without having to walk.

Lighthouse

The Świnoujście Lighthouse is one of the city's most recognizable symbols and one of the tallest in Europe (standing a whopping 68 meters). For over 150 years, its light has guided ships heading to the port of Świnoujście. However, it's worth noting that access to the lighthouse is currently difficult, so it's not the best option for a traditional tour. Instead, consider it a point of interest during a walk through this part of the city.

Seasonal attractions for children in Świnoujście

In summer, children can look forward to even more attractions focused on active leisure. As long as the weather is nice, kids will definitely have fun here!

The most interesting seasonal attractions are:

  • amber mine at Fort Angel – a unique place that children will remember for a long time. They are given a strainer and sift through the sand, which contains real amber. They can take home whatever they find. It's worth remembering, however, that the attraction only operates in good weather, so it's best to check the forecast in advance.;
  • IVY Rope Park – a good option for children who love exercise and a challenge. The trails are varied, so both younger and older children can cope;
  • bicycle trips – The Świnoujście area is perfect for family rides. The trails are flat, pleasant, and often lead through forests or along water, so the ride itself is an attraction.

Świnoujście and the surrounding area – attractions for children outside the city

If you're looking for a quick trip outside of Świnoujście, the area offers plenty of truly exciting places for kids to explore. Such a trip can be a great way to unwind after a beach holiday, especially if the weather takes a turn for the worse. What's worth seeing near Świnoujście?

  • Karsibór – a quiet, green part of Świnoujście, perfect for a family outing. You can rent a kayak, pedal boat, or boat here and paddle the backwaters. In the center of the island is the Nature Education Square, divided into an educational zone (with boards about nature and history), a fitness zone (a playground with swings, a sandbox, a climbing wall, and a ping-pong table), and a relaxation area. A few hundred meters away is also an observation tower and an additional playground.
  • Kołobrzeg – if you are planning a longer trip (approx. 2 hours by car), children will especially like three places: Mouse City (an exhibition with over 500 live mice in various arrangements), Hidden Land (an interactive space with exotic animals, including geckos) and a revolving café on a high floor with a view of the city and the sea.
  • Heringsdorf (Germany) – About 30 minutes from Świnoujście, you'll find the Baumwipfelpfad Usedom treetop trail. The trail is approximately 1,350 meters long and runs approximately 20 meters above the ground. At the end, there's a viewing platform with a panoramic view of the surrounding area. The trail is safe and suitable for children.
  • Oceanarium in Międzyzdroje – a good place for inclement weather, offering more attractions than the one in Świnoujście. Inside, there are aquariums with fish from around the world, water tunnels, and exhibits that allow you to see the underwater world up close. The tour isn't very long, but it's an interesting and incredibly engaging experience for children.
