The best cycling routes in Świnoujście and the surrounding area – where to go and what to see?

Świnoujście is a city with a dense network of cycle paths. The flat terrain, proximity to nature, and well-developed infrastructure mean that cycling is practically unlimited – both recreationally and for more ambitious pursuits. Another huge advantage is its location near the border, allowing you to plan cross-border trips and see more than just the city itself. Many routes lead through forests, along the coast, and through quieter, less-frequented areas, ensuring there's something for everyone. How to plan a cycling trip in Świnoujście, and which routes are worth choosing?

Świnoujście – Ahlbeck bicycle route (Seaside Promenade)

  • Level of advancement: easy
  • Distance: approx. 12 – 24 km (there and back)
  • Surface: asphalt / paving stones
  • Time: 1 – 2 hours.
  • Perfect for: families with children, seniors, beginners

This is the most frequently chosen cycling route through Świnoujście. A dedicated cycle path along the Baltic Sea takes you to the German resort of Ahlbeck, and from there you can continue to Heringsdorf and Bansin (the so-called Three Emperors). The route is completely flat, well-marked, and completely away from car traffic.

Along the way, we pass historic villas, the Ahlbeck Pier (one of the oldest in Europe), and numerous restaurants and cafés. This is a great option for an afternoon ride or a family outing with children. The distance can easily be shortened or extended as needed. If the kids run out of energy, you can return by train – the Usedomer Baderbahn railway runs from Ahlbeck or Heringsdorf year-round and easily transports bicycles.

Usedom Island Cycle Loop

Level of advancement: easy / medium

Distance: ~40 – 50 km

Surface: asphalt, local roads

Time: 3 – 4 hours.

Perfect For: tourists planning a full-day trip

The Świnoujście–Usedom cycle route allows you to cycle across the entire Polish side of the island and explore its more peaceful side. First, we head south along the Szczecin Lagoon, passing Przytór and Karsibór, before returning towards Świnoujście along a route closer to the sea. This is a great option for those looking to escape the crowds of the seaside.

The terrain is mostly flat, and the roads are quiet and well-maintained for cycling, so the route is effortless. The greatest advantage is the views – vast meadows, the waters of the Szczecin Lagoon, and a silence that's hard to find on more popular trails.

Świnoujście – Międzyzdroje bicycle route

  • Level of advancement: mediocre
  • Distance: ~30 km one way (60 km there and back)
  • Surface: asphalt + forest roads
  • Elevation: approx. 150 m
  • Time: 2.5 – 4 hours (one way)
  • Perfect for: active tourists, nature lovers

The cycle route from Świnoujście to Międzyzdroje is one of the most beautiful trails in this part of Western Pomerania. It leads east through Wapnica and then enters Wolin National Park – the only national park in Poland located directly on the Baltic Sea. Along the way, the landscape changes, with beech forests, sections with sea views, and stretches of cliff-like coastline.

In Międzyzdroje, it's worth taking a break and checking out the pier, strolling along the Alley of Stars, or visiting the Bison Reserve. If you don't feel like returning the same route, a good option is to take the train back to Świnoujście – you can easily take your bike with you.

It is worth remembering that in the Wolin National Park it is forbidden to leave the designated cycling routes.

Świnoujście Cycle Routes: Bramy Torowe and Stawy (south of the island)

  • Level of advancement: medium / difficult
  • Distance: ~45 km
  • Surface: asphalt + sandy roads
  • Time: 3.5–5 hours.
  • Perfect for: experienced cyclists looking for wildlife

This route is for those who want to see the less obvious, wild side of the island. It runs through the Brama Torowa reserve – a unique area on the edge of the Szczecin Lagoon, where floodplains, ponds, and wet meadows create a completely different landscape than the coastal trails.

The route isn't the easiest, however. Besides the asphalt, there are sandy sections and forest tracks that require a bit more strength and technique. For this reason, this route is primarily for those with more experience. The reward for the effort is silence, a lack of crowds, and excellent conditions for nature observation. It's worth bringing binoculars, especially if you're interested in birds, as you can see quite a few here in spring and autumn.

Bicycle route R10 Świnoujście–Hel (EuroVelo 10)

  • Level of advancement: difficult / expedition
  • Distance: ~650 km (total) | ~120 km to Kołobrzeg | ~320 km to Tricity

It runs along the entire coast – from Świnoujście, through Kołobrzeg and the Tricity area, to Hel. The trail is well-marked and varied, covering both paved sections and forests, dunes, and seaside promenades. This makes it easy to divide the route into shorter stages and tailor it to your abilities.

  • Time: 1 – 2 days
  • Perfect for: experienced cyclists planning a multi-day trip
